Frisco, Texas is a well-known city situated in Collin and Denton Counties within the state of Texas. This affluent city is considered a part of the fast expanding suburb of Dallas. Based on statistics during the year 2010, 116,989 inhabitants were residing within the city of Frisco. This was a dramatic increase from the 33,714 individuals counted during the last census. This increase made the city of Frisco the fastest growing city in the USA during 2009 as well as being the fastest growing city within the country for the years of 2000-2009.

When the suburban development tide hit the northern Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex during the latter part of the 1990's, expanding into Frisco. This created growth which was felt during the 2000's. The city of Frisco has the reputation of becoming a bedroom township for many professionals who within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This is similar to numerous cities located in the northern Dallas suburbs.

The city has been designated "Tree City USA" ever since 2003. This title is granted by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Frisco received the National Arbor Day Foundation Growth Award in 2007 for the 3rd consecutive year. This award encourages a higher level of tree care and tree preservation within the community and also recognizes the environmental improvement within the community too. During 2007, Forbes Magazine published a study naming Frisco the 7th fastest growing suburb within the USA.

The very first inhabitants within the area arriving by way of the Shawnee Trail, a trail that was common for cattle drives that ran through the community of Lebanon. This region eventually became part of Frisco. In 1902, the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad arrived and a community sprang up close to the train station. The newly built community was named Frisco to honor the Railroad. When the cattle drives lessened, inhabitants moved from the trail regions and chose to settle closer to the railroad and relocated within Frisco near the railroad and the hub of activity it created.

Like many of the Dallas suburbs, Frisco is accumulating a large number of retail opportunities. IKEA opened a 310,000 square foot facility during the year 2005. In the month of August the year 2000, a 165 store regional mall known as Stonebriar Centre opened also. There are an abundance of retail establishments and restaurant chains lining Preston Road which is amongst the major north-south traffic arteries running through Frisco.

The city chose a different economic plan than the majority of the cities surrounding it. Frisco opted to use a fractional percent of local sales tax so as to fund the FEDC or likewise called the Frisco Economic Development Corporation instead of the regional transportation body known as DART. The effectiveness of FEDC is a matter of public discussion. Their primary purpose is to reallocate tax dollars to commercial projects among other things.

The multi-use development called Frisco Square is being constructed and will eventually become the new downtown. The square includes 7 restaurants, approximately 250 rental residential units, several personal service locations and 40,000 square feet or 3,700m2 of commercial office space. The main library, the new City Hall and a public common area are part of the major development in the project. In 2010, a Cinemark theatre also opened. North of the Cinemark, a new hospital is likewise being built.
