Arlington is a city within Tarrant County, with an approximate population of roughly 365,000 people, making it the 7th largest city within the state of Texas, and the 3rd largest within the Dallas Metroplex. Arlington is the largest city in the state of Texas that is not a county seat. The city is bordered by several cities, like Mansfield, Kennedale and Grand Prairie. Dallas City is located around twenty miles east of the city and Forth Worth is located approximately twelve miles west.
Within Arlington City are various well-known facilities, consisting of The Texas Rangers' Ballpark in Arlington, the University of Texas at Arlington, Cowboys Stadium, the International Bowling Campus, the waterpark Hurricane Harbour, the headquarters of American Mensa and the theme parks Six Flags over Texas. It is also the headquarters of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV.
Although most of the city of Arlington is situated in Tarrant County, a small portion of it extends into Dallas County. As such, the city of Arlington is served by two county court systems.
the city of Arlington was first founded along the Texas and Pacific Railway during the year 1876 and was named after General Robert E. Lee's Arlington House. It was incorporated in 1884. By the year 1910, the city had water, electricity, telephone and natural gas services in addition to a public school system. Prior to the second World War, the population grew to over four thousand.
