The city of Beaumont is situated in the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan statistical part and forms the Golden Triangle with the cities of Port Arthur and Orange, that is an important industrial area on the Gulf Coast. The city of Beaumont is situated south of the dense pine forests of East Texas on the coastal plane, that is approximately 30 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. A small community started to grow all-around the farm using the name of Tevis Bluff or Neches River Settlement. Henry Millard, Joseph P. Pulsifer and Thomas B. Huling obtained the small community together with the nearby community of Santa Anna in 1835 with the objective of planning a town. It was named after the late wife of henry Millard, Mary Dewburleigh Barlace Warren Beaumont, who passed away in the year 1834.
Lamar University is located in Beaumont City and presently hosts about 15,000 students. The Beaumont Enterprise is the city's daily newspaper, and The Examiner is published once a week.
The Port of Beaumont represents a significant element of the region's economy. It is presently the largest seaport by Tonnage and the second biggest military seaport in the globe. Stationed at the port are both the 842d transportation Battalion and the 596th Transportation Group.
Within the city of Beaumont, there are some companies which have their head offices here. Jason's Deli and Conn's Appliances are presently amongst the largest. The South Texas State fair has been held in Beaumont City ever since the year 1907 and has just relocated to its new site within Ford Park.
